SEND Education Support Assistant – Southwark
Location: Southwark, London
Rate: £22.78 per hour
Hours: Full-time

Pertemps Social Care are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEND Education Support Assistant to join a Social Care service in Southwark.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to achieve their goals, develop independence and reach their full potential.
You will work as part of a supportive team delivering person-centred, outcome-focused support to young people with learning disabilities, autism, sensory needs and physical disabilities. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred and outcome-focused support to young people with SEND.
  • Support young people to achieve their EHCP outcomes and individual goals.
  • Assist SEND Progression Mentors with key-working responsibilities.
  • Facilitate individual and group activities designed to build confidence and independence.
  • Support the development of English and Maths skills through tailored activities.
  • Encourage participation in community activities and local networks.
  • Connect young people with community services, digital resources and other support networks.
  • Provide emotional, practical and positive behavioural support.
  • Support individuals with behaviours of concern using appropriate Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches.
  • Provide personal care and manual handling support where required.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Work effectively with colleagues, families and external professionals.
  • Attend training and maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, wellbeing and positive outcomes for the young people you support.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting people with SEND or complex support needs.
  • Experience working with individuals who may display behaviours of concern.
  • Ability to deliver person-centred support aligned with individual outcomes and EHCPs.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and risk management.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with families, professionals and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to provide personal care and manual handling support where required.
  • Ability to work across both centre-based and community settings.
  • Commitment to promoting independence, inclusion and positive outcomes.
