Sandwell MB Council are recruiting an experienced children’s Advanced Practitioner to a newly created pilot role focused on prevention, de‑escalation and stability for children in residential care.

The post holder will provide practice leadership, oversight and coordinate targeted intervention for children whose needs are escalating, ensuring care plans are timely, purposeful and outcomes‑focused. You will work closely with children, social workers, IROs, Homefinding and Step Aside Team, residential providers and other professionals to coordinate effective interventions and reduce escalation.
A key focus of the role is supporting children to achieve stability and transition from residential care into family-based settings, through clear intervention planning, professional consultation and defined milestones.
You will act as a leader, mentor and advisor to Children We Care For practitioners and professionals, offering guidance, challenge and expertise in complex situations. This role complements the Step Aside Project and forms part of our wider commitment to new ways of working that strengthen early intervention and de‑escalation.
We are seeking a registered social worker with significant experience working with children in care, strong practice leadership skills, and a commitment to trauma‑informed, strengths‑based practice.
Children’s Social Workers will need at least 3 years’ permanent experience with an English local authority and to be registered with Social Work England, as per DfE rules.
