Assistant Director – Education Strategy, Access & Inclusion
Location: Local Authority
Rate: £650 per day
Contract: Full-time, Interim

Pertemps Social Care is currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Director – Education Strategy, Access & Inclusion to join a Local Authority on an interim basis.

This is a senior strategic leadership position reporting to the Director of Education and Learning. The successful candidate will form part of the senior management team within Education and Learning, Children’s Services and the wider Council.

You will provide strategic leadership across education inclusion and outreach, working closely with colleagues across Children’s Services, schools, partner organisations and wider stakeholders to deliver effective, child-focused services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic leadership for Education Strategy, school access, admissions and inclusion.
  • Overseeing pupil place planning, education sufficiency and education provision, ensuring high-quality services are maintained.
  • Leading services supporting vulnerable pupils, SEND and inclusion, working collaboratively across Children’s Services.
  • Overseeing traded services to schools, including Educational Psychology, behaviour and sensory support/outreach services.
  • Driving strategic and operational service improvement and supporting cultural change and transformation.
  • Developing effective multi-agency partnerships with schools, voluntary organisations and other stakeholders.
  • Leading significant areas of school policy and performance and acting as a School Improvement Adviser to a number of schools.
  • Ensuring school admissions, services for excluded pupils, Fair Access Protocols and Panels are managed effectively.
  • Providing senior leadership to professionally qualified staff and ensuring high standards of service delivery.
  • Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of relevant education and children’s services legislation, policy and statutory requirements.
  • Identifying and implementing best practice locally and nationally to improve outcomes for children and young people.

Essential ExperienceThe successful candidate will have:

  • Substantial senior leadership experience within education, a Local Authority, education authority, school or large Multi-Academy Trust.
  • Proven experience managing professionally qualified staff at a senior level.
  • A successful track record of senior management and policy development, translating strategic plans into effective operational delivery.
  • Strong experience across education strategy, school improvement, SEND/inclusion, admissions and access.
  • Excellent understanding of relevant education and children’s services legislation, policy and statutory requirements.
  • Significant experience working strategically with schools, senior leaders, partners and multi-agency services.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading service improvement, transformation and organisational change.
  • Strong knowledge of services for vulnerable children and young people.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or above.
  • PGCE or equivalent qualification is desirable/required.
