Pay rate – starting from £12.71 per hour
Contract – Shift work – ongoing – Day & Night shifts available
 
A Greater London 20 bedded residential home are recruiting Health Care Assistants for Adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. Staff are required to be fit and able enough to use a hoist, support with personal care throughout the shift including bathing and showering with more than 1 adult per shift and to be able to support in the community with an adult using a wheelchair and to also access public transport with adults using a wheelchair. Whether a 1-1/ activity or other depending on the staffing needs of the building the candidate needs to be compliant with these needs.
 
People in the Service
They have 4 units split across 2 floors with a mix of male and female residents; their ages range from 31 to 80. Each adult has their own communication needs, health needs and nutrition and fluid requirements. They have adults who can move around independently, others who use a walking frame, wheelchair that they can propel themselves, and some who require support with all transfers. Most of the adults are nonverbal and communicate with noises, gestures and body language.
 
Adults who live at the residential home have different care needs. Duties will include:

  • Support at mealtimes with meal preparations and feeding and support with fluid intake
  • Assistance with continence
  • Bathing and showering
  • Colostomy/ catheter care
  • PEG feed (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy)
  • Attending health appts
  • Mouthcare
  • Support with making choices

 
Additional information
Staff will be required to be able to read and understand a care plan and risk assessments, have a clear spoken English, clear and legible writing skills for filling in data collection sheets, daily logs, health action plans.
To treat the people who live at the residential home with dignity and respect.
Staff will be required to keep the area they’re working in clean and tidy, and to undertake laundry duties.
To be reliable, have good timekeeping, to be able to work as part of a team and under their own initiative.
 
On each shift there will be a Team Leader who will oversee planning and running the shift,
