Personal Advisor – Westmorland & Furness

Pay rate – £27.19 per hour

Westmorland & Furness Council are currently recruiting experienced Personal Advisors for their Children in Care & Care Leavers team.
 
Hybrid working available
37 hours per week (Monday – Friday)
 
Providing advice, guidance, and practical support to young people as they transition from care to independent living, typically from age 16 up to 21 or 25.

• Act as the allocated Personal Advisor to develop, review, and manage Pathway Plans that outline the transition to independence.
• Allocated starting around a young person’s 16th birthday to work alongside social workers, visiting regularly (at least once every 12 weeks for 16–18-year-olds) to build a trusting relationship before leaving care.
• Provide support on education, employment, training (EET), housing options, managing finances, and accessing welfare benefits.
• Help young people access specific funding allocations (such as interview clothes or work uniforms/equipment grants) and navigate local council services.
• Act as an advocate for the young person, championing their aspirations, safeguarding their welfare, and ensuring their voice remains central.
• Liaise and work collaboratively with social workers, housing providers, health services, and other partner agencies to implement comprehensive support plans.

 
 
 
Children’s Social Workers will need at least 3 years’ permanent experience with an English local authority and to be registered with Social Work England, as per DfE rules.
