SEND Officer – Hertfordshire County Council
Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Rate: £300 per day
Working Pattern: Full-time, office-based initially, with the option to work remotely at a later stage of the contract

We are currently recruiting for an experienced SEND Officer to support Hertfordshire County Council on an exciting project focused on the implementation of a needs-led funding model for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
As part of the transition to a new software system, experienced SEND professionals are required to support the implementation and ensure funding decisions are consistent, accurate and aligned with the needs and provision outlined within EHCPs.
Key Responsibilities

  • Review the needs and provision identified within Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • Quality assure decisions relating to funding allocated to pupils with EHCPs.
  • Apply consistent decision-making based on identified needs and provision.
  • Use your knowledge of SEND, schools, educational settings and specialist provision to inform funding decisions.
  • Work accurately and efficiently within project timescales.
  • Identify discrepancies or areas requiring further consideration and work collaboratively with colleagues to resolve these.
  • Support the implementation of the new software and needs-led funding model.
  • Liaise with other members of the SEND team and, where required, school representatives.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail throughout the project.

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience within SEND, ideally gained within a Local Authority environment.
  • Thorough understanding of children and young people’s SEND needs.
  • Strong knowledge of schools, educational settings and specialist SEND provision.
  • Experience interpreting and reviewing EHCPs.
  • Understanding of how identified needs translate into appropriate educational provision and support.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to make consistent, evidence-based decisions.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and project timescales.
  • Strong communication and collaborative working skills.
  • Experience with SEND systems/software would be advantageous.

Important Information: This is a focused project role and does not involve casework. There is no direct contact with parents or carers. Contact with schools will be occasional, with the primary focus being the review and quality assurance of EHCP needs, provision and associated funding decisions.
