SEND Caseworker Liverpool City Council
Rate per day: £300 per day 
Hours per week: 35 hours per week
Working Arrangements: Hybrid – Minimum 2 days per week on site

Liverpool City Council is looking for an experienced SEND Caseworker to join its SEND team on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring statutory responsibilities are met while working collaboratively with families, schools and partner agencies.

The successful candidate will manage a caseload of Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments and plans, ensuring children and young people receive the appropriate support to achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of children and young people throughout the Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment, planning and review process.
  • Coordinate statutory EHC needs assessments, ensuring all statutory deadlines are achieved.
  • Draft, amend and finalise Education, Health and Care Plans in line with legislation.
  • Support schools and educational settings in implementing the graduated approach to meeting SEND needs.
  • Build strong relationships with schools, SENCOs, headteachers, parents, carers and young people.
  • Work collaboratively with Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Health, Children’s and Adult Social Care and other partner agencies.
  • Attend annual review meetings, particularly for vulnerable children including Looked After Children, Continuing Care cases and those at risk of exclusion.
  • Monitor progress against agreed outcomes and ensure appropriate provision remains in place.
  • Provide advice and guidance to schools and families regarding SEND processes and legislation.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Recent Local Authority experience as a SEND Caseworker, SEND Officer or EHC Coordinator.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice and SEND Tribunal regulations.
  • Experience coordinating statutory EHC assessments, annual reviews and EHC Plans.
  • Strong experience working with parents, schools and multi-agency professionals.
  • Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
  • Confident managing a busy caseload while meeting statutory timescales.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
