About the Role
Our client is a well-established independent children’s residential care provider based in the Uxbridge/Greater London area. They are looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and resilient Residential Support Worker to join their team and make a lasting difference to the lives of children and young people.
As a Residential Support Worker, you will provide high-quality care, guidance, and emotional support to children and young people, helping them overcome challenges, recover from past trauma, and achieve positive outcomes. You’ll play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive home environment while encouraging independence, personal development, and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day care and support in line with each child’s individual placement and care plan.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people, acting as a positive role model.
- Promote a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where every child is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Support children to engage in education by encouraging attendance, assisting with homework, and attending educational meetings where required.
- Where children are not currently accessing education, support educational activities and help them work towards agreed learning outcomes.
- Assist children in developing life skills, confidence, and independence to prepare them for adulthood.
- Support therapeutic interventions and care plans, helping children work through previous trauma and emotional difficulties.
- Encourage positive behaviour and help children manage conflict in a safe, constructive manner.
- Support children to participate in community activities, hobbies, and social opportunities that promote personal development.
- Act as a Key Worker for allocated children, advocating for their needs during reviews and care planning meetings.
- Liaise effectively with social workers, education professionals, healthcare providers, and family members to ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Safeguard children at all times, following organisational policies and safeguarding procedures.
- Support children to reduce behaviours that may place them at risk, including missing from care, exploitation, or offending behaviour.
- Encourage children to express their views and ensure their voices are heard in decisions about their care.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records, completing all documentation before the end of each shift.
- Prepare reports for care planning meetings, reviews, and other professional meetings as required.
- Contribute to the smooth running of the home, including cooking, cleaning, maintaining a welcoming environment, and encouraging children to take pride in their surroundings.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver consistent, high-quality care.
- Attend all scheduled shifts, including sleep-ins, waking nights, and on-call duties where required.
- Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, annual appraisals, and mandatory training.
- Take responsibility for your own continuing professional development.
- Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies and procedures.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is caring, patient, resilient, and committed to improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people. You should be able to remain calm under pressure, work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and build positive relationships with young people who have experienced trauma.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards achieving it).
- Experience working with children or young people with emotional, behavioural, or complex needs.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A compassionate, child-centred approach to care.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, and waking nights where required.
