Staffordshire County Council are currently recruiting an experienced children’s Senior Practitioner for their Kinship Assessment team based in Stafford.

Key responsibilities:
Conducting Assessments
Complete Viability Assessments to determine if a family member or friend can care for the child.
Undertake Full Connected Persons Assessments and prepare Special Guardianship Reports for court proceedings.
Use statutory checks (DBS, references, medical, local authority checks) and analyse risk factors.
Legal and Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with Fostering Regulations (Regulation 24 temporary approval and Regulation 25 extension).
Prepare applicants for Foster Panel and support them during the process.
Understand and apply Children Act 1989 duties and kinship care statutory guidance.
Support and Supervision
Provide ongoing supervision and support to carers temporarily approved as foster carers pending transfer to Kinship Supervision and Permanence Support Team.
Develop Special Guardianship Order (SGO) support plans, tailored to family needs.
Liaise with Family Practitioners for complex matters and ensure timely allocation of referrals.
Multi-Agency Collaboration
Work closely with Children’s Social Workers, Kinship Service Team Managers, and external partners (e.g., Kinship charity).
Attend resource panels and contribute to permanence planning for children.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate records in Care Director.
Complete statutory checks promptly and ensure documentation meets court timescales.
Participate in rota-based duty cover for the Kinship Assessment Team.
 

  • Professional social work qualification and Social Work England registration.
  • Strong understanding of Fostering and Special Guardianship Regulations.
  • Ability to manage high caseloads, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality reports.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

 
 
Children’s Social Workers will need at least 3 years’ permanent experience with an English local authority and to be registered with Social Work England, as per DfE rules.
