Job role:
 
The Chair of Conference occupy senior consultancy positions within the Local Authority and carry the main responsibility for quality assurance of fieldwork services by:

  • Providing independent chairing of child protection conferences (using a relational strength-based approach) and other complex meetings, ensuring children and families are appropriately involved in decisions.
  • Contributing to improved standards and outcomes for children and their families by providing consultation and expert advice, and/or challenge on complex child protection matters to social workers, team managers and all stakeholders both internal and external to the organisation.
  • Conducting regular audits and or inspections of fieldwork services for children to ensure statutory requirements are met and by making recommendations for action to raise practice standards.
  • Contributing to policy and procedure development, and training.
  • Maintaining professional independence from the line management of operational services and challenging practice when necessary.
  • Supervising Administrative staff in their roles within the Quality Assurance.
  • A Child Protection Chair has delegated responsibilities for managing allegations against professionals (LADO).
